The edition described in 's listing and the ebook's introduction (both cribbed from The Guardian's blurb) is Stanley Mitchell's translation from Penguin. But the edition actually presented is, as the ebook does indeed state, the Charles Johnston translation (|||“These guides, so beautiful to have and to behold, mark a huge advance on their predecessors. I find them essential supplements, not only to ENO and Royal Opera programmes, but to recordings issued on CD which often come without scholarly documentation
